A model-based safety concept for a rotary blood pump
Today extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an ultima-ratio treatment for severe lung injury. Not only
the technical complexity of the system and the physiological relationship between the different related parameters,
but also the safety issues related to an ECMO cause it to be a very rarely applied therapy. One major source of complications
is the blood pump, causing 12% of all cases.
