During ECMO, about 12 % of all complications are caused by the blood pump or by air in the circuit. In addition, hemolysis, which bases on activation within the blood pump, causes complications during 7 % of all ECMO treatments. Since ECMO is still an ultima-ratio therapy we want to improve this situation by introducing a safe, but also automated ECMO setup, which can be run by a closed-loop control.
